Who We Are

The contemporary town of Mevaseret Zion sits nestled in the mountaintops at the western approach to Jerusalem, with inspiring views overlooking the Holy City. In the heart of this modern suburban community stands an exciting Beit Midrash and a dynamic Yeshiva: Yeshivat Sha'arei Mevaseret Zion.

Who We Are YSMZ is a learning program for graduates of Yeshiva high schools throughout North America, Canada, Australia and various European countries including the UK.  It offers serious Talmidim the ideal experience of learning Torah in Israel, through a unique blend of Torah learning on the highest level and the warmth and friendliness of a small Yeshiva.

With a brilliant Rosh Yeshiva, a vibrant team of Rabbeim, and a wide array of shiurim together with a self-contained campus comprising a Beit Midrash, Beit Knesset, classrooms, dining hall, dormitories, basketball court, ping-pong and weight room facilities, student lounge, and every other amenity nearby, Yeshivat Sha’arei Mevaseret Zion fulfills the needs of every Talmid in and beyond the realm of the Beit Midrash.

Not only do our Talmidim learn about learning Torah, they return home with an unparalleled education in life, and enduring friendships with fellow Talmidim and Rabbeim alike.

PHILOSOPHY

The Way We Learn

Shiurim at Sha'arei Mevaseret are taught from intermediate to advanced levels, in Hebrew or English, with an emphasis on methods of Talmudic analysis.

Gemara shiurim are offered in both Iyun – teaching Talmidim the skills of Talmudic analysis through clear, comprehensive inquiry – and B'kiyut – allowing
Talmidim to acquire knowledge of sizable sections of the Talmud. Throughout the year, our Talmidim frequently make siyumim as they complete masechtot of the Talmud.

The Way We Learn

Shiurim during the Afternoon Seder are given on a wide range of topics and comprise an essential part of the program.  Talmidim are encouraged to amass knowledge of Mishna, Chumash, sefarim of Tanach, Halacha, Hashkafa, Mussar (ethics), Tefillah, Jewish History and Machshevet Yisrael. Afternoon seder is flexible, and Talmidim are given a variety of shiur, chabura and chavruta options.

Shiurim are offered in both Hebrew and English, and Talmidim are encouraged to make the transition to Hebrew-speaking shiurim as the year progresses.

The shiur schedule is enriched and supplemented by a variety of guest speakers – ranging from Gedolei Torah from Israel and abroad to popular inspirational lecturers. Shiur Klali, given by our faculty members, takes place once a week and on days preceding Chagim or other special events.

The Way We Think

Rabbi Azarya Berzon shlita, our Rosh Yeshiva, is known throughout the chinuch world for his knowledge and charisma. Rabbi Berzon and several other faculty members are Talmidim of the Rav, Rav Soloveitchik zt"l, and his methodology of Talmudic learning and hashkafic worldview dominate many aspects of Ruach HaYeshiva.

Led by the exceptional cadre of talmidei chachamim and experienced mechanchim who serve on our faculty, Talmidim are challenged to penetrate the depth and breadth of a Talmudic sugya. They learn to acquire a methodology of learning and the skills necessary to learn a sugya independently, as well as to apply what they have learned to their lives.

The Mevaseret Family

The MEvaseret FamilyOne of the cardinal principles in Yeshivat Sha'arei Mevaseret Zion's educational philosophy is our conviction that every Talmid is an individual, with his own interests, talents and needs. We are committed to providing a program of learning which is tailor-made for each Talmid. The program is supervised by members of our faculty who meet with Talmidim on a regular basis to discuss their progress and modify the Talmid's schedule, whenever needed. One-on-one chavrutot with the Rabbeim and the Meretz Kollel further enhance this philosophy.
